Landslide Workaround

Phantom Creek to Timber Lake
(10 miles, +2,500/-2,500 feet).

The morning the kids wanted a down day but Half Cookie and I wanted to hike, so we left them to their devices and headed for the Timber Lake Trail.

At the trailhead we learned there had been a recent landslide, but luckily they had just blazed a cross-country path around it.

Uh oh

The detour was not too bad, but it did take some time because the slope was very steep and somewhat slippery.

After that it was smooth sailing through some pretty woods and we were able to get water along the way.

Even with the detour, it only took us about 3 hours to reach Timber Lake.  It was really lovely.

Once we had our fill of the serenity, we headed back down the trail from whence we came.
