19 January 2020
A couple of weeks ago, the Pacific Crest Trail Association decided to issue permits for long distance hiking this year.
Yay!
And today was the day they started accepting permit applications.
In past years, thousands of people tried to get permits right when they became available because they only issue 50 for each start date in March, April, and May, and there is a lot of demand for the most popular dates. I wasn’t sure if that would be true this year, since there is still some uncertainty about what will happen with the pandemic. But I didn’t want to take my chances, so I logged in from several browsers on three different devices.
And thank goodness I did! They assign people random places in line, and mine were 1336, 3762, 5065, 6503, 6697, 7769, and 9811!
Fortunately, the line moved quickly and within an hour that first queue number worked and let me in.
Of the 50 permits issued for my preferred start date (April 1st) only 2 were left! But that was good enough.
Did I already say YAY?
CONGRATULATIONS!
