Day 4: Killer Trees

5 June 2022
Twin Lakes to Lodgepole
(7 miles, +300/-3,000 feet).

Today was an easy last day. We packed up our beautiful site at Twin Lakes and then headed into the woods for a three thousand foot descent back to civilization.

Good morning!
So pretty!
One last water stop
And one more stop!
Sticky Cinquefoil
A pretty watefall
Sierra Mariposa Lily
Veiled Polypore
Deer!
Small White Violet
Sculpted Puffball
A nice meadow
Whiskerbush

About halfway down we entered a burn zone from the KNP Complex fire (we joked that it was actually the “KFC” Complex, started by an errant fryer!).

The Park Service has done a lot of work through here cutting up trees that might pose a danger to hikers. Some of the labeling gets a bit extreme though:

When good trees go bad….
Last view of Silliman Peak

And soon we were back down to Lodgepole and on the bus back to our car at Wolverton.

Whew!
Glad to be back!

very nice trip, thanks for sharing. I had never been to the Little Lakes and that looks like a wonderful place. Ferguson Meadow is a wonderful place to camp for an evening. Towards the lower portions there is a nice campsite and the fishing there in Ferguson Meadows is unusual for Kings Canyon waters.

Great trip. i loved the photos. I mapped your hike out on Alltrails. Crazy how many miles you did off trail. I live on the East Coast and don’t get to see this kind of scenery. Thanks for sharing
