Christmas Valley-Wagontire Road, Eastern Oregon

Well, this wasn’t a hike but it was definitely an adventure! Half Cookie and I flew up to Bend, Oregon to see an annular eclipse with Orion and his family.

I have only seen total eclipses before, so I was very excited to see this “ring of fire” type of eclipse where the moon does not quite cover the whole sun. Instead it leaves a tiny bit of sun all around it, creating a beautiful bright circle with a dark center.

There was just one problem. The weather forecast called for clouds all day!

But not to fear: we all hopped aboard Orion’s monster truck and headed southeast.

We basically started driving whatever direction we could to find fewer clouds

We enjoyed the show, and then headed home. But not before taking a fun but very bumpy road home.
