East Entrance Trailhead to Top of Echo Canyon
(6.6 miles, +1,000/-400 feet).

We met ChiaGlyph, who was driving in from Denver, at the Kolob Canyon Visitor Center.  We got our permit and then dropped a car at the Kolob Canyon trailhead where we will return at the end of our hike.  We then shuttled to the East Entrance Trailhead where we started our trek on the East Rim Trail.

The East Rim Trail does not see many hikers.  There is so much crazy beauty in Zion National Park that most visitors pass it by.  But if it were located anywhere else it would probably be heavily trafficked because of its remote feeling and its lovely rock formations.

We slowly made our way up from 5700 feet to 6700 feet and then back down to 6400 feet just outside of Echo Canyon.  Camping was not allowed beyond that point, so we set up our tents and called it a night.
